August Alsina Takes Young Thug’s “Gay Men Coming Out” Comment Personally

R&B singer August Alsina isn’t letting Young Thug’s comments about men coming out later in life slide.

During an Instagram Live session on Tuesday (June 23), Alsina responded to remarks Thug made last year on the Perspektives with Bank podcast, where the Atlanta rapper said he considers it a breach of “man code” when someone presents as straight before later revealing they are gay.

After revisiting the clip, Alsina made it clear that the comments hit close to home.

“That comment, I took personal,” Alsina said. “It’s time to start calling out stupid.”

The singer questioned why sexuality remains such a major topic for some people, especially given the larger issues facing society.

“It’s so much you could be talking about, but this is the sh*t that’s on y’all mind,” Alsina said. “That tells me way more than I need to know about you, bro.”

Young Thug originally made the remarks while discussing trust, loyalty and his fallout with Gunna. During the conversation, he compared coming out after previously identifying as straight to other actions he believes violate personal principles.

R&B Singer August Alsina Reacts To Rapper Young Thug’s “Gay Men Coming Out” Comment

“I feel like once you break a rule from your manhood, once you rat or once you turn gay,” Thug said before clarifying that he was not anti-LGBTQ+. “If I meet you and you gay, it’s like, ‘Okay.’”

Thug continued by explaining that he struggles with situations where someone presents themselves one way before later revealing something different about their identity.

“If you’re portraying a certain thing, I can’t look at you the same,” he said.

The renewed debate has also brought attention back to Alsina’s own public journey. In 2022, fans speculated that the singer had come out after introducing a man named Zu on The Surreal Life and describing their relationship as a form of love that entered his life “in a new way.”

Alsina later told Nick Cannon that he doesn’t feel the need to label his sexuality, explaining that life has exposed him to different kinds of people and experiences.

Now, his response to Young Thug has sparked another round of discussion online, with fans debating masculinity, identity and acceptance in hip-hop culture. As the conversation continues, neither artist appears interested in backing away from their perspective.
